Day 1 Day 1: Casablanca :In and around Casablanca

Salaam Aleikum! Welcome to Morocco. Your adventure begins today with a welcome meeting at 6 p.m . where you will meet your guide and fellow travelers. As there is little free time included in Casablanca on this trip, consider coming a day early to fully explore the city. Inspired by Marseille in France, the city is famous for its art deco buildings. A pleasant way to spend a day exploring Casablanca is to stroll through the old medina and the city walls, then hop in a taxi to visit the Quartier des Habous, the new medina. Then take a stroll along the ledge, watching the locals play soccer on the beach, or relax with a glass of sweet mint tea in one of the many great cafes. Tonight, join your group for a welcome dinner of delicious traditional specialties. *Possibility to organize a private tour. *Possibility to organize Transfers from airports Walking Time: 1h to 2h Driving time: 1h to 2h (105 km) Meals included: breakfast, Dinner Accommodation : Hotel : Option - Confort : Option - Luxury : Steps : Casablanca

For lunch, visit a friendly local restaurant in the Medina and try a Moroccan specialty - a camel burger! Then drive around 1 hour to Moulay Idriss where you will visit a local olive press and learn the secrets of their fragrant olive oil, a specialty of the region. Tonight, settle into a local guesthouse, where the art of hand-rolled couscous is lovingly demonstrated with an authentic Moroccan meal. This morning, drive to Chefchaouen, or the “blue city”, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Morocco. Backing onto a wide valley and nestled between two peaks in the magnificent Rif mountains, Chefchaouen can surprise you. Its medina has been lovingly maintained with blue and whitewashed houses, red tiled roofs and artistic doorways. Much of Chefchaouen has been recreated by Andalusian refugees fleeing the Reconquistia, so you might feel like you're in the hills of Spain while exploring its streets. Immerse yourself in the relaxed pace of life at this rural retreat. Tonight you'll get a real taste of Moroccan cuisine with a home-cooked dinner prepared with seasonal ingredients - bursting with flavor and made with love. Walking Time: 1h to 2h Driving time: 4h to 5h (350 km) Meals included: breakfast, Dinner Accommodation : Hotel : Option - Confort : Option - Luxury : Steps : Meknes – Chefchaouen

Herds of goats roam the sparse hillsides surrounding Chefchaouen, and their cheese is sold in large, fresh rounds in street markets. In the afternoon, travel to Fez, the most complete medieval city in the Arab world. Fez is the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco - vibrant, noisy, fascinating and overwhelming - a visual and tangy feast for the senses. You will have free time for the rest of the day to explore. Tonight is the perfect time to discover Moroccan specialties like harira (chickpea soup). Pass donkeys full of goods (it's one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world) and explore the specialist sections that divide the souk. Don't miss the Medersa Bou Inania, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, which has been recently restored and is now open to tourists. Also visit a ceramic factory where you can see the making of traditional handmade pottery. Your local chef will guide you on a 'tasting trail' along the way before enjoying a cooking demonstration, where you'll learn how to create one of the city's iconic dishes - la bastilla (or pastilla) - a packet of savory and sweet pastry. The region is populated by wandering nomadic shepherds tending to their flocks. Pass through the cedar forests that are home to North Africa's only monkey - the Barbary Apes - and continue to your destination, Midelt. Nestled in a valley, Midelt is a market town, originally built as a base for mining in the region and surrounded by farmland and orchards. Stretch your legs as you explore the nearby village of Bremmen and get a closer look at the local farm life. Enjoy a demonstration of medfouna (also called 'Berber pizza'), a traditional stuffed bread made with meat, herbs and spices by the nomadic peoples of the High Atlas. Traditionally prepared by women to feed local farm workers, this hearty delicacy is a great introduction to the cuisine of the desert region. You'll notice prices are not often listed on items in the souqs, so evaluate what you're willing to pay and come prepared to bargain with the shopkeeper - it's all part of the fun!

Leather Goods
Fez

Moroccan leather is highly unique and the centuries-old tanning techniques are still practiced across the country today. The most famous tannery is Chouara Tanner of Fez, making it the perfect place to purchase quality, hand-crafted leather goods including slippers, bags, jackets, belts and wallets. Prices for leather goods start at approximately 10 USD.

Berber Rugs
Countrywide

Berber rugs and carpets are traditionally the craftwork of nomadic women from the Middle Atlas region and date back to the 2nd century BC. They are made from virgin wool from the sheep and can be found in souqs across Marrakech in all shades, sizes and shapes. Rug shopowners will encourage you into their store with the offer of tea, but feel no obligation to buy. Rug prices may range from 50 to 1,000+ USD.

Argan Oil
Essauoira & Agadir

Used by the local Amazigh people for its healing properties, Argan Oil is immensly popular in Morocco. It is common to see women sitting on the front step of beauty shops crushing the kerns of the argan tree into paste, which is sold cosmetically for its healing properties to skin and hair. The regions surrounding Essauira and Agadir are the only places in the world where the specific tree grows. In this region you can purchase a quality 150ml bottle of the oil for approximately 20 USD.
