Overview

- 4 Days To Discover Imperial City Of Marrakech

Marrakech is the soul of Morocco in a single city. Its medina is one of the most vibrant in the country, with squares overflowing with life, superb Islamic monuments and colorful souks. A real change of scenery! This is also where the best of Moroccan traditions are hidden: gastronomy with spicy flavors, beauty secrets with captivating scents, copper and leather crafts… We also appreciate his extraordinary taste for hospitality in his riads transformed into houses of 'hosts or in its popular cafes. An imperial city to discover for a long and beautiful weekend in our own address.

Itinerary

- 4 Days To Discover Imperial City Of Marrakech

On the spot

You will stay in a traditional riad, but not just any ... ours! Located in the heart of the medina, this haven of peace will enchant you with its elegant patio, hammam and delicate cuisine. The little extra? We will be there to meet any of your wishes. It is from this unique place that you will discover our Marrakech: discovery of little known districts, hammam session and cooking class. A beautiful immersion in the Red City.

Our essentials

Impossible to embrace Marrakech at a glance: to discover what is hidden behind its red ramparts, you will have to go through its doors and then get lost in its alleys ... We discover architectural marvels such as the Bahia Palace, the Madersa Ben Youssef and the minaret of Koutoubia, but also colorful souks organized by districts and by trades. To give yourself a little peace, you dare to push the doors of riads sheltering cafes or workshops, or you leave the medina to stroll in the Majorelle garden or the Menara gardens.

Our favorites

Cooking secrets:
In Morocco, some secrets are well kept. It’s during a private workshop that one of the riad’s cooks will introduce you to the art of marrying spices and preparing delicately flavored dishes. Who knows, the recipe for happiness may be candied lemon in a tagine or fresh mint in a tea?

A gentle hammam:
No stay in Marrakech without a traditional hammam! To make this session a pure moment of relaxation, it will be accompanied by a traditional scrub, an argan oil massage and even a light Moroccan meal, all at the heart of your sublime riad.

The authenticity of Sidi bel Abbès:
It is with a private guide that we invite you to discover the peaceful and little known tourist area where your riad is located: Sidi bel Abbès. After exploring the narrow alleys of Bab Taghzout, whose atmosphere is reminiscent of a village, you will taste the religious fervor that reigns around the mausoleum of the city’s patron saint.

Atmosphere, atmosphere!

Apart from the traditional souks devoted to babouches, leathers or ceramics, there are much more surprising markets in Marrakech. Rahba-Kedima square is definitely one of those with its dried animals with "magic" properties, its love potions, its medicinal plants ... Harry Potter would find its happiness there! As for us, we bring back sticks of walnut bark as toothpaste, poppy powder to make up the eyelids and many other original memories.

The dirham (MAD)

The currency of Morocco is the dirham (MAD), with bank notes found in the denominations of MAD 200, 100, 50 and 20 and coins issued in smaller values. While every traveller's spending habits may differ slightly, we have estimated the average daily expenses to help with budgeting for your next trip. Here you'll find the average cost for a meal or drink and advice for best practice in tipping.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsary, but is encouraged for good service in Morocco. The general rule of thumb is to tip 5~10% in restaurants or to private services such as porters. Your guide and driver would also appreciate this kind of gratitude at the end of your tour. For Taxi Drivers, typically rounding up the fare for convenience is recommended, as well as at market stalls.

Morocco is home to some of the oldest retail cultures in the world, meaning there's no shortage of souqs waiting to be explored. Haggling in Morocco is expected and welcomed. You'll notice prices are not often listed on items in the souqs, so evaluate what you're willing to pay and come prepared to bargain with the shopkeeper - it's all part of the fun!

Leather Goods
Fez

Moroccan leather is highly unique and the centuries-old tanning techniques are still practiced across the country today. The most famous tannery is Chouara Tanner of Fez, making it the perfect place to purchase quality, hand-crafted leather goods including slippers, bags, jackets, belts and wallets. Prices for leather goods start at approximately 10 USD.

Berber Rugs
Countrywide

Berber rugs and carpets are traditionally the craftwork of nomadic women from the Middle Atlas region and date back to the 2nd century BC. They are made from virgin wool from the sheep and can be found in souqs across Marrakech in all shades, sizes and shapes. Rug shopowners will encourage you into their store with the offer of tea, but feel no obligation to buy. Rug prices may range from 50 to 1,000+ USD.

Argan Oil
Essauoira & Agadir

Used by the local Amazigh people for its healing properties, Argan Oil is immensly popular in Morocco. It is common to see women sitting on the front step of beauty shops crushing the kerns of the argan tree into paste, which is sold cosmetically for its healing properties to skin and hair. The regions surrounding Essauira and Agadir are the only places in the world where the specific tree grows. In this region you can purchase a quality 150ml bottle of the oil for approximately 20 USD.
